Umschlagtext
This is the ultimate book on America's greatest group, a detailed study that brings together for the first time in one publication a complete guide to The Beach Boys' musical career, from 1961 to 1976, alongside a wealth of unseen photographs and a cache of original studio logs from classic recording sessions. One journalist wrote in 1966 that The Beach Boys' creative mastermind, Brian Wilson, was "as much a sound fiend as a maker of melodies". This book investigates those and other aspects of Wilson's genius, and analyses in detail the contributions of his bandmates, including Mike Love, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston.

- Blow-by-blow accounts are here for every recording session for every album, including "Pet Sounds", "Surf's Up" and the famously unreleased "Smile", as well as all the singles, including classics such as "Good Vibrations" and "Heroes and Villains".

- Thousands of concert appearances from around the world are listed for the first time, some featuring long-lost press reviews and full set-lists.

- Rare archive interviews with the group and their close associates are gathered together to create a richly textured story that reveals the motives behind much of their creative and business activity.

- Details of every Beach Boys television appearance are presented, including key spots on programmes such as "Ready Steady Go!" and "The Ed Sullivan Show".

Main chapters cover each year from 1961 to 1976 in a detailed, easy to read day-by-day format. At the rear of the book is an extensive information section that includes a US/UK selected discography, a song-by-song recording index, a "Smile" recording index, a log of session musicians, a TV index, a concert location index, and a datelist of recent Brian Wilson solo concerts. At last, this important new book takes you right into the studio and firmly centre-stage for an unrivalled and exhilarating Beach Boys experience.

Keith Badman is a writer, researcher, film & video archivist, historian, consultant, and musician. His long-time devotion to music, film and the arts led him to co-author definitive works on The Rolling Stones and The Small Faces. But it is his three groundbreaking tomes on The Beatles that have given Badman the most recognition; his best-selling "The Beatles After the Break Up" (1999) was voted among the top ten essential Beatles books of all time by "Q" magazine. Badman was an archive consultant on the 1995 documentary series "The Beatles Anthology" and has since been associated with many music-related programmes broadcast by VH1 in the US and by BBC Television and Channel 4 in Britain. Badman, a Beach Boys fan for over 30 years, is a noted session drummer, a regular contributor to "Mojo" magazine's Beatles specials, and a longstanding writer for "Record Collector" magazine.
Rezension
