Wurden in der Vergangenheit Artikel über die Filme der Beatles veröffentlicht, so behandelten diese hauptsächlich die fünf von den Beatles selbst initiierten Werke von "A Hard Day's Night" bis "Let It Be". Wohl niemand hat sich bisher die Arbeit gemacht, auch die vielen anderen Filme zu analysieren, die von den Beatles handeln bzw. in Zusammenarbeit mit einem der Gruppenmitglieder entstanden sind. Jörg Helbig schließt mit seiner Publikation "I saw a film today, oh Boy!" damit eine große Lücke in der Beatles-Forschung.
Das vorliegende Buch bespricht Filme über die Beatles und Filme mit den Beatles genauso wie Beatles-Zeichentrickfilme, -Dokumentationen, -Konzertfilme und -Video-Clips. Enthalten sind darüber hinaus u.a. Ringo Starrs Auftritte als Schauspieler, Paul McCartneys Animationsfilme und George Harrisons Arbeiten als Produzent. Jeder Film ist mit Produktionsangaben, Darstellern, einer Inhaltsangabe und einer Analyse des Autors versehen. Trivia sowie Literaturhinweise runden den Informationsblock ab. Im Anhang sind die Filme chronologisch aufgeführt. "I saw a film today, oh Boy!" bietet einen Bestandskatalog der Beatles auf Zelluloid, die bekannten Klassiker sind dabei ebenso vertreten wie einige längst vergessene Produktionen. So macht der Autor mit seinem exzellent recherchierten Buch Lust auf die Wiederentdeckung vieler Schätze bzw. die Vervollständigung seiner DVD-Sammlung.
