Der 1945 in Toronto, Kanada, geborene Folk- und Rockmusiker Neil Young gilt als ein eigenwilliger Gitarrist und Sänger, als (selbst-stilisierter) ewiger Außenseiter, der zunächst mit Buffalo Springfield, dann mit Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young große Erfolge feierte, mit "Heart of Gold" auf der Platte "Harvest" weltberühmt wurde, um dann später mit der Begleitband Crazy Horse als Solist auf der Bühne zu stehen: Ein wehleidiger Cowboy, depressiv und narzißtisch, jenseits des mainstreams, der dem verloren geglaubten American Dream nachtrauert und ihn doch nur in Alpträumen wiederfindet ... Jedenfalls eine interessante, schillernde, eigenartige Gestalt der Post-Flower-Power Rockmusik, der mit diesem englischsprachigen Band "A Life in Pictures" (Untertitel) ein Denkmal in Buchform gesetzt wird.
